On October 07, 2016 Center for tropical medicine, Faculty of Medicine, UGM, Yogyakarta held a Memorial Symposium Dr. Jan Voskens at University club hotel UGM, Yogyakarta. This memorial was conducted to honor Dr. Jan Voskens contribution in TB control.
FK UGM together with Yogyakarta TB Control Program have a special relationship with Dr. Jan Voskens and KNCV. In the year 2000, Dr Jan Voskens and KNCV has initiated a Hospital DOTS Linkage (HDL) project. Furthermore, DOTS committee was established in Yogyakarta. These two projects (HDL and DOTS Committee) have been used as a model for hospital involvement strategies in TB control in Indonesia. Based on the above initial collaboration, further activities were implemented, such as: TB-HIV studies, economic evaluation on the involvement of private sectors in TB control, development of national strategies for TB control, development of GFATM proposals, development of regional training center for TB, and development of TB research lab at FK UGM.
The Memorial Symposium were attended by Dr. Kitty Van Weezenbeek, KNCV Executive Director, Dr. Asik Surya, Indonesia NTP Manager, and Dr. Agnes Gebhard, KNCV Indonesia Country Director As a part of the Memorial Symposium, Panel discussion on TB Control Research is being held, with participants from Researchers from FK UGM, Yogyakarta DOTS Committee, Yogyakarta Provincial Health Office, Yogyakarta District Health Office, Tropical Medicine and FETP Master Students at FK UGM and TB Control practitioners in Yogyakarta.
